The Nintendo Entertainment System is an 8-bit third-generation home video game console and was released in October of 1985 in the US (1983 Japan). In our opinion, the original Nintendo video game console is the greatest of all time and changed the landscape forever, and without it, gaming today would look radically different.
Nintendo started the wildly successful business model of licensing third-party developers to produce and distribute games. Some of the more popular franchises for the system included Mario, Zelda, and Mega Man.

The most expensive Nintendo video game sold recently was a WATA 9 Graded Super Mario Brothers, which sold via eBay on 6/19/2022 for $30,100. An ungraded, factory-sealed Metroid game sold for a mind-blowing $13,302 on 8/16/2022.
